The medium is the message : James Camerons "Avatar"
The paper analyses the legal files in the case against the murderer and bandit Lips Tullian that were published in 1716. It argues that these files form an intricate relation between literary poetics and social pragmatics: establishing the poetics of an anti-legend (Andre Jolles), they aim to control and prevent delinquency. Thus, it shall be shown how pre-modern crime literature participates in early 18th century governmentality
Der Journalist als Detektiv. Kischs Der Fall des Generalstabschefs Redl und die Reportage der âșNeuen Sachlichkeitâč // The Journalist as a Detective. Kisch\u27s Der Fall des Generalstabchefs Redl and Journalist Report in the Age of âșNeue Sachlichkeitâč
The espionage case of Alfred Redl was one of the greatest scandals on the eve of the Great War. This article examines the literary adaptation of historic events in Egon Erwin Kisch\u27s Der Fall des Generalstabchefs Redl (1924) and develops two main arguments. Firstly, it shows that Kisch\u27s fictionalization does not jeopardize, but rather affirms the poetics of âșNeue Sachlichkeitâč. Secondly, it is argued that the text documents the genesis of a surveillance society, in which control over the media of communication proves to be crucial for the outcome of the war
âșTjam patramâč. Musikalische Poetik beim frĂŒhen Brecht // âșTjam patramâč. Musical Poetics in Early Brecht
// The origins of âșepic theaterâč are often traced back to Brechtâs rejection of classical poetics of drama. This article instead tries to show that in his early years, Brecht rather focuses on a poetics of music in order to develop key elements of epic theater. As a medium, music combines three functions of Brechtâs theater: (2) It provides an intermittent element that interrupts plot contiguity; (2) It creates a musical semantics that can interfere with literary semantics; (3) It is a medium of an aesthetic perceivable âșgestusâč that makes it possible to observe the agency of an agent

A search for resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a new particle X in the XHâqqbb final state with the ATLAS detector
A search for heavy resonances decaying into a Higgs boson () and a new particle () is reported, utilizing 36.1 fb of proton-proton collision data at 13 TeV collected during 2015 and 2016 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The particle is assumed to decay to a pair of light quarks, and the fully hadronic final state is analysed. The search considers the regime of high resonance masses, where the and bosons are both highly Lorentz-boosted and are each reconstructed using a single jet with large radius parameter. A two-dimensional phase space of mass versus mass is scanned for evidence of a signal, over a range of resonance mass values between 1 TeV and 4 TeV, and for particles with masses from 50 GeV to 1000 GeV. All search results are consistent with the expectations for the background due to Standard Model processes, and 95% CL upper limits are set, as a function of and masses, on the production cross-section of the resonance
Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in âs = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fbâ1 of protonâproton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at âs = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
